Sergio Barbieri, the passport officer of the Italian Consulate, travelled to Honolulu, Seattle and Portland last month and issued 151 electronic passports. This process generally requires require nationals to travel to San Francisco and present themselves at the Consulate in person.
In fact, the passport office must take their fingerprints - which are then saved in the passport electronic chip. Thanks to Sergio, a sizeable numbers of citizens were spared the time and costs of a long journey to California and enjoyed an on-the-spot service.
