Behind many successful American stories lies the journey of an immigrant. The story of Mellano & Company, the oldest flower business in the western United States, is no exception. It is a tale of resilience, hard work, and a deep-rooted love for both family and the land — a journey that began in Italy and blossomed into a thriving multi-generational enterprise in California.
As the family celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2025, their legacy is a testament to perseverance, adaptability, and the enduring power of family. It all started with Giovanni Mellano, who arrived from Entracque, (Cuneo) in the United States in 1921 through Ellis Island, eventually making his way to Santa Cruz.
