Wind energy is increasingly being seen worldwide as a low cost, clean source for electricity and is also creating major new business opportunities for manufacturing and materials innovation. At the forefront of zeal for wind energy lies Italy and California, who both have significant installed capacity and ambitious development schemes. Let's take a closer look at wind energy in these two areas.
Of all 50 US states, California has the second highest installed wind capacity (5,544 MW) and second highest new wind capacity added in 2012 (1,656 MW). To put this in perspective, California expanded its wind energy capacity by 42% last year alone. Quite a healthy clip.
