The 1979 Lamborghini Countach LP400 S is among 30 cars considered to be of national importance to the United States of America. To celebrate the historic moment, the car was displayed outside the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC. Besides Lamborghini, there are two Italian cars included in the restricted list: the 1985 Ferrari Modena Spyder and the 1938 Maserati 8ctf Boyle Special.

The Lamborghini - with chassis 1121112 - is best known for being the star of The Craziest Ride in America, a highly successful 1981 film. Exactly forty years after the release of the comedy starring Burt Raynolds, Roger Moore and Farrah Fawcett, the Countach has been listed as one of only 30 cars to date considered of national importance by the National Historic Vehicle Register of the U.S. Library of Congress.

For this reason, the legendary Lamborghini has been displayed in a glass case on the National Mall in Washington, DC, home of the Lincoln Memorial. The vehicles on the list "are the first to be added to the documentation program" created in 2013 by the U.S. Department of the Interior to "preserve information for future generations," reads the National Library of Congress website. Cars that "demonstrate the vast impact they have had on all aspects of American history. Many more vehicles will be added in the future."
