The Madison Italian Workmen’s Club was listed on the State Register of Historic places, announced the Wisconsin Historical Society on Friday. The clubhouse located at 914 Regent St. was added to the register on May 24 and was presented with a certificate by State Historic Preservation Officer, Daina Penkiunas.
The Workmen’s Club was formed by 42 original paying members after a small group of Italian immigrants settled in the Greenbush neighborhood in 1912. The clubhouse was built in 1922, and it is one of the few remaining buildings in Madison associated with this historically important ethnic group.
