The U.S.-based think tank Atlantic Council intends to bestow the Global Citizen Award on Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at a ceremony to be held in September in New York during the week of the United Nations General Assembly. According to reports, the think tank has already initiated contact with Palazzo Chigi, although the decision to award the prize is not yet official.

Last year, the award was given to Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky; German Federal Chancellor, Olaf Scholz; Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida; and U.S. Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen. This is one of two annual awards from the think tank founded in Washington in 1961, along with the Distinguished Leadership Award, which was given to former Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi in 2022.
