"We didn't have reality shows, so what you had at home was a reality business," the chairman of Conair recalled of his childhood, where his parents, Julian and Josephine Rizzuto, once ran two salons in Manhattan that employed 100 hairdressers.
Two of Julian's brothers were barbers, and Josephine's family was also in the beauty business. The husband-and-wife team taught hairdressing to other extended family members, many of whom then worked in their shops.
