The competition was stiffer this time around and Dormeuil and Fratelli Tallia di Delfino came out on top, as reported by wwd. The mills were chosen by a panel of experts at Saks Fifth Avenue and The Woolmark Co. in the store's second annual Fabric No. 1 Awards. The contest is designed to choose the season's finest made-to-measure fabrics for suits and sport coats.
Dormeuil won for its long-filament, super 150s worsted wool, which is named 15 point 8 for the diameter of the fiber. Fratelli Tallia di Delfino won for its 90 percent wool and 10 percent cashmere blended fabrics for sport coats. At an event at the store last week, Tom Ott, senior vice president and general merchandise manager of men's wear for Saks, said more than 20 mills contributed fabrics for consideration this year, nearly twice the number that participated in the inaugural event in 2012.
