In 1938, after the dawn of the automobile age but before a national highway system, Italian immigrant Enrico Vecellio and a few partners founded a road-construction company. Today, Leo Vecellio Jr., Enrico's grandson, presides as chairman, president and CEO of Vecellio Group Inc., a contractor with highway, mining and petroleum operations throughout the country.
On Thursday, as part of American Free Enterprise Day at Palm Beach Atlantic University, the Palm Beach resident received the 2015 American Free Enterprise Medal. An annual tradition since 1984, according to the university website, American Free Enterprise Day honors "individuals whose hard work and achievement exemplify the best of the American free enterprise system."
