For Chico State University associate professor Chiara Ferrari, becoming a naturalized citizen of the United States was a historic, somber and happy moment. Ferrari was one of a small group of people from around the country, who became citizens at a ceremony March 6 at the State Capitol in Sacramento.
The event was historic because it was the first naturalization ceremony to be held in the Capitol building in the state’s history, she said. “It was a very intimate ceremony because there was only 15 women and one man,” said Ferrari Thursday at her home in Chico.
