Fifteen graduating seniors from several Brockton area high schools were presented with scholarships earlier this month by the Brockton chapter of the Sons of Italy. The scholarships, totaling around $10,000, were awarded to the group of winners from a pool of applicants comprised of family of Sons of Italy Christopher Columbus Lodge 216 members and area high school students of Italian descent.
After going through an entry process involving a description of their merits, the top 15 candidates were formally granted their educational aid at George's Cafe in Brockton at a June 3 dinner. "The accomplishments of these kids astounded me," said Lodge 216 president Jacky Bonarrigo. "These kids are incredible."
