Annually, in occasion of October Italian Heritage Month, FAA-USA (Federazione Associazioni Abruzzesi - USA) awards scholarships to high school seniors who have excelled in the study of Italian. The annual scholarships are made possible through a generous donation by Joe Pace in memory of his mother, Rosaria DiPompo Pace.
This year two $1,000 scholarships were awarded. One of the scholarships went to a student at Revere High School and the other to Rachel Garland, a student of AP Italian at Medford High School. On Oct. 10, Garland accompanied by her mother and three Medford High School Italian teachers — Nicole Chalifoux, Monica Canetta and Bianca Hoffman — was honored at a gala celebration at Filippo's Restaurant in the North End of Boston.
