The Rockland Sons of Italy Lodge 2176 recognizes students each month who study the Italian language at area schools. The students are presented with a monetary gift at a monthly dinner hosted by the lodge members. To date, they have honored more than 20 students.
On April 27, the lodge held its final presentation for 2016 and awarded four students, including an eight-grader for the first time. The students recognized were Nick McQuillan from Clarkstown South, Dominick Marrone, a senior at Tappan Zee High School, and Marisa Cooke, also a senior at Tappan Zee High School, as well as Madison Maggiore, an eighth-grader from Tappan Zee Middle School.
