The Umbrian city of Perugia is a joy to explore, with centuries of history and charm in every stone wall and winding alleyway. Who wouldn’t want to spend June and July exploring this vibrant Umbrian capital? On June 15 of this year, 12 University of Washington students will do just that, as they inaugurate a new study-abroad program in Perugia focused on food, art, and architecture.
Nestled around a medieval piazza, perched among the green hills of Umbria, Perugia is one of the 12 confederate cities of the ancient Etruscans. It is a lively cultural center with several internationally renowned universities, offering the best of Italy without the crushing hordes of summer tourists. These were some of the key reasons why the University of Washington was so receptive to partnering with Perugia’s Università per Stranieri (University for Foreigners).
