Little Italy San Jose's coordination with Google and Poor House Bistro to move this historic home to our Museum lot will be complete this Saturday! Want to thank Google for their generosity and we are very excited to be working together with Jay and the entire Poor House crew in Little Italy for many years.

The new spot in Little Italy actually will be the house’s third location, as Meduri’s grandparents bought the building when it was a sorority house on 11th Street near San Jose State and moved it to Autumn Street in the 1950s. The home will be located adjacent to our Museum & Cultural Center in the back right of the lot. There will be a lot of synergy on the Little Italy owned lot with our Museum & Cultural Center, Italian Cellar member's Bar and Famiglia Meduri's Poor House Bistro.

Poor House Bistro's namesake is derived from the classic New Orleans sandwich called the Po Boy (Poor), served inside a Victorian family home (House), turned into a restaurant (Bistro). The homes origins and current business owner are the Meduri family and they plan on honoring their Italian American roots when this building and business are moved to Little Italy this Saturday, January 8th. The actual opening date is TBD. Look forward to the best of New Orleans with an Italian twist with a combination of Venetian Carnevale and New Orleans Mardi Gras.

Here is some info from Jay with Poor house in regards to the festivities on the day of the move. "The house will be moved on Saturday Jan 8th starting at 7am and reaching 317 W. St. John around 9am. We are asking everyone that wants to see the house move to arrive at the corner of W. Santa Clara and Barack Obama Blvd to see the house turn the corner from S. Montgomery to W. Santa Clara. There will be New Orleans Band set up near the park to celebrate the move. There will be no parade, however, anyone can follow the house move while staying on the sidewalk or
through the Arena Green Park. Parking would be available at the corner lot of Barack Obama Blvd and W. Santa Clara. Diridon Train station also has parking available.

Henry’s Hi-Life will have their patio open around 9am to serve drinks and the Poor House Bistro will have some food available for purchase.

We are looking forward to joining Little Italy of San Jose as Famiglia Meduri Poor House Bistro in Spring 2022!
