Maryann Battaglia knew exactly what she wanted Tuesday morning at Papa's Food Market in Wilmington: A package of Napoletano Brothers "Springfield" brand of spaghetti and a double-helping of nostalgia. In keeping with tradition, she got both. Battaglia grew up in the city's Little Italy neighborhood that's been home to Papa's since 1927.
And now, 50 years after she and her sister moved away, they still come back to shop at the 1910 W. Sixth St. market that has a close connection to their father Stephen Donato. "I'm so glad they are keeping this as an Italian store. This means a lot to us. Peter Pop, the original owner, was my dad's godfather," Battaglia said as her sister Stephanie Donato Martin nodded in agreement.
