A big name in Italian food in the Chicago Southland has opened its first location in Northwest Indiana. Carla Bolin, whose family ran the Angelo's restaurants in the south suburbs for many decades, picked up the family business by opening Angelo's Fresh Markets in Flossmoor and Tinley Park in recent years. Now she's opened her third Italian-themed specialty boutique grocery/restaurant in Schererville.
Angelo's Prime at 1542 U.S. 41 says it carries "the best of everything," such as truffle butter, prosciutto, wild caught fish, fresh baked Turano French bread, flavored olive oils, grab-and-go slices of lasagna, homemade dry pastas and homemade Italian meatballs with a three-meat blend of veal, pork and beef. The 2,200-square-foot boutique store has the entire Sartori artisan cheese line, locally raised meats, and homemade raviolis, including braised short rib, squid ink and lobster, artichoke and spinach.
