Stroller-town over on Southport has another a new restaurant, this one from Billy Lawless (The Gage) and Ryan O'Donnell (Gemini Bistro). Once visitors step into Coda di Volpe, they're greeted by the aroma of Neapolitan pizzas baking in the wood-burning oven in the rear of the restaurant. It's a welcome smell, as chef Chris Thompson and Co. take diners on a trip to southern Italy.

The restaurant should open sometime next week at 3335 N. Southport Ave. When it does, it won't be the first pizza place on Southport, which already counts Coalfire and D'Agostino's on the strip. But Thompson's pizzas are a different breed, with an airy crust topped with fresh ingredients like San Marzano tomatoes and fennel sausage. Wood-grilled octopus and mortadella/prosciutto meatballs are other menu highlights (see below).
