Diners in Cleveland’s Little Italy neighborhood have one more dessert choice starting Friday, May 19. That’s when Mount Granita opens at 2024 Murray Hill Road Cleveland. Street-cart vendors of granita for the past three summers, Chris Giancola and his partner are moving indoors. While finishing his degree in civil engineering, Giancola worked to restore a former storefront-turned-apartment to retail use.
At the same time, he was selling small batch, fresh-fruit Sicilian granitas. Granita is non-dairy, frozen dessert, related to sorbet and Italian ice, that hails from Noto, Sicily. (Think HBO’s “White Lotus,” season two.) Don’t expect a grainy snow cone. Mount Granita’s version is a creamy, smooth combination of fruit, sugar and water.
