As if anyone who has driven to Wisconsin's first Portillo's restaurant and seen the wave of cars streaming in and out needed proof, here's some data to confirm just how busy the place has been. The Brookfield Portillo's at 17685 W. Blue Mound Road, which debuted July 19, posted the third-highest opening week sales in the history of the 44-location Oak Brook, Ill.-based chain.
"Sales in the first week exceeded $400,000 and we sold more than 5,000 pounds of our homemade Italian beef in our first seven days open," said Portillo's spokesman Nick Scarpino. "We are thrilled at the response from everyone." The only locations with higher opening week sales were in Rockford, Ill., in 2015 and Brandon, Fla. – Portillo's first Florida restaurant – this April.
