Tuscany, a popular Italian restaurant that closed in March after 25 years in Oak Brook, will be replaced with a new eatery that will keep several of the same menu items, along with some new offerings and a new name. Steven Hartenstein, chief financial officer and chief operating officer of Tuscany owner Phil Stefani Signature Restaurants, will be a managing partner of Osteria 22, which will take over the space vacated by Tuscany at 1415 22nd St.
Hartenstein said Tuesday that a proposed sizable rent increase and a lack of a tenant allowance for improvements and signage were the major factors for the decision to close Tuscany. But being approached by many customers and Oak Brook officials disappointed by the restaurant’s closing prompted Hartenstein and Claudio Ulivieri, vice president of Phil Stefani Signature Restaurants, to go back to the landlord.
