Brookfield's Venice Club, a 66-year-old Italian-American restaurant, remains open for business but is in limbo after the death of its owner last year: The restaurant is in foreclosure and was scheduled to go to public auction April 9, but its operator says talks with the lender are continuing.
No matter what, Casper "Cap" Balistreri said, the Venice Club will be back at the lakefront for Summerfest this year, where it has operated a stand for 40 years and prepares a ton of eggplant for fried eggplant strips (below) daily during the music festival's run.
