Step into the new Due Focacceria Italian eatery and market in St. Paul’s Macalester-Groveland neighborhood and it’s clear fresh baked flatbreads are the star of the show. It seems owner Eric Carrara, who runs the spot with his wife, Vanessa, is paying tribute to his roots. His mom is from Sicily and his dad is from the Tuscany region.
On the menu, you’ll spot items with influences from these areas of Italy, such as cut-into-squares medium-thick, semi-soft bread that is between focaccia and schiacciata Italian flatbreads. The spot, modeled after a piazza, or gathering place in Italy, is smaller (2,000 square feet, 30-seats inside and 20 seats on the covered patio) than ie, the Carraras’ full-service sit-down Italian restaurant in South Minneapolis.
