La Juntans have something new to salivate over following the opening of Anthony Martinez’s Papa GiGi’s Italian Grill. The Italian restaurant that officially opened on Oct. 4 can be found off U.S. 50 at 27866 Frontage Road. Martinez, the owner, said it had been his lifelong goal to open an Italien restaurant in the spirit of his late grandmother, who used to own a local Italian restaurant called Carducci’s.
Papa Gigi’s offers a selection of sandwiches, homemade noodle dishes and dessert items. Martinez cooks in the back while his girlfriend, Geneva Hernandez, doubles as a manager and the baker. Hernandez used to own a bakery in Rocky Ford adjacent to the Sonic Drive-Thru.
