If you’re familiar with Wrentham’s Luciano’s and Attleboro’s Pizzeria Canova, but crave a little Italian closer to home, hold onto your seat. Chef Luciano Canova is opening his third Attleboro area restaurant at 651 South Washington St. this summer. Pizzeria Romana will feature pizza takeout but will double as an eat-in restaurant for sandwiches, pasta, pizza and more, the chef noted when applying for a liquor license before selectmen last week.
Canova said he passed by the vacant building on Route 1 almost every day before stepping inside. There, in the small building, the idea for a new pizzeria came to life. Canova graduated from the Culinary Institute of Italy and worked around the world serving Italian cuisine before settling in the New England area. His latest restaurant will employ about 30 people, Canova said, and will be open Sunday-Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The family hopes to have the restaurant open by the end of August.
