Caffe Italia, a fixture on Central Avenue for 50 years that was founded by an Italian immigrant whose offspring still run the restaurant, is planning to move to a Guilderland shopping plaza late this year, in the process gaining more than twice as much seating and abundant free parking.
Maria Romeo, who owns and manages Caffe Italia with her three siblings, said Tuesday that the family has negotiated a deal to take over a space being vacated by Tesoro Italian Restaurant. It is at 2080 Western Ave., in Hamilton Square Plaza, part of an expansive retail campus near the intersection of Routes 20 and 155. Tesoro’s chef-owner, Raffaele Sainato, and his wife, Michele, are retiring and closing Tesoro after dinner service on June 30.
