A popular East Village pizzeria founded by former Staten Islanders went up in flames early Friday morning, according to a report. Artichoke Basille's pizza, located at East 14th Street near Second Avenue, hailed for their famous artichoke slice, went up in flames at 5:15 a.m., the report says.
The fire began in the restaurant on the ground level and spread to the second- and third-floor apartments through walls in the six-story building, the FDNY told the New York Post. Firefighters had the blaze under control by 6:27 a.m. No injuries were reported in the blaze. Artichoke Basille's opened in 2008 in Manhattan after Francis Garcia and Sal Basille worked in the family restaurant Basille in Westerleigh.
