The concept at Casa Louie (W37th St and 10th Ave) is “coastal Italian meets neighborhood in New York City.” The restaurant opened last week, with longtime restauranteurs Jonah Phillips and Marom Unger, owners of the popular sushi/ramen spot down the block, Suram, at the helm. Many will also know Jonah as managing partner of Friedman’s, which has a location two blocks down 10th Avenue.
“Our goal is to make a beautiful restaurant that’s modern Italian,” said Jonah. “ We built for the neighborhood … and what we love about this neighborhood is they want you to succeed.” The initial inspiration for the restaurant came from Jonah’s father, Aaron Phillips, who traveled to Rome, was “enamored by the pizza,” and wanted to bring a pizzeria to Hudson Yards, Jonah said.
