• Tell us about your place: “We are a family business,” said Sarah Whiteaker, who owns Sammio’s Italian Restaurant on Raeford Road with her husband, James. Drew Faircloth is the head chef. They bought the business from relatives and are celebrating their 10th year as owners. It was previously owned by Louis and Roni Frangos, who own the Sammio’s in Hope Mills, she said. Sammio’s was started in 1993 by Sam (Soterios) Frangos, who immigrated from Greece and moved to North Carolina in 1990. The Raeford Road location was opened in 2004. Whiteaker said a new and updated menu will be coming in a few weeks.
• Specialties: Sammio’s will be offering two Mother’s Day specials on Sunday. One is a strawberry spring salad topped with tender grilled chicken, feta cheese and a homemade vinaigrette for $9.99. There also will be a raviolis dish for $12.99, Whiteaker said. “Both the raviolis and the sauce will be homemade,” she said.
