Fauxciutto: Is Italian-American Cuisine Really Italian?

Sep 24, 2013 1004

Please join us at the Village Garage at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens for the second event of our 2013-2014 lecture series, Food for Thought. Nationally known chef and FIU faculty member, Mark D'Alessandro will examine concepts of Italian and Italian-American food in terms of its evolution in this country.

He will touch on the context of Italian immigrants living in USA during mass migration and on the food culture that resulted. D'Alessandro will also engage the rise in popularity of ethnic cooking and the veracity of the term "Italian food so good you think you are in New York." Finally, he will explain why Italian-American cuisine is as Italian as pasta.
