McGregor Cafe in Fort Myers gets new chef with New Orleans-Italian soul

By: Artis Henderson

The McGregor Cafe in Fort Myers is known for breakfast, brunch and lunch, especially on its oak-shaded terrace. It's not as well-known for dinner. But owner Luke DiSomma has set out to change that. In September, DiSomma brought Chef Coleman Jernigan in from New Orleans to serve as McGregor Cafe’s head chef. Though many of the classic McGregor Cafe favorites will remain unchanged, Jernigan is introducing new dishes to the menu, dishes inspired by his decades in the kitchen.

“I've been in the industry since I was 15 years old,” Jernigan says. “My mother was a sous chef at a restaurant in Oklahoma City. I grew up in and out of her kitchen. Some of my earliest memories were of her cooking or teaching me how to cook. I remember standing on a step stool learning how to flip an omelet.
