Many Louisville diners have fond memories of family meals at Melillo's, a family-owned Italian restaurant that dished out enormous portions of pasta and homemade meatballs topped with rich marinara sauce, eggplant parmesan, crusty bread and a three layer, towering nut-encrusted Italian cream cake.
Bringing back that New Jersey-style Italian generosity is the goal of Silvio's, a family eatery opening later this month at 104 Fairfax Avenue in St. Matthews. Behind the new venture is Bill Silvio Melillo, a member of the Melillo clan behind the restaurant that closed in 2008 on East Market Street downtown.
