Travinia Italian Kitchen opens near the Fillmore

The name is Travinia Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar and the wine list includes about 60 wines by the glass, but therein lies the rub. The liquor license for the contemporary restaurant - set up in the old Ajax Metal Works building next to the Fillmore in Fishtown and just across Delaware Avenue from the SugarHouse Casino - has been delayed.

For now, it's running as a BYOB. At least the "Italian kitchen" part is valid. And it's a scratch kitchen, too. Travinia (1000 Frankford Ave., 267-687-2020) is part of a chain with a dozen locations, all in the South. The company is based in what co-owner Mark Craig calls "that hotbed of Italian food, Greenville, South Carolina."
