Lance Fegen, the chef who founded Liberty Kitchen in the Heights a decade ago, has announced a new restaurant that will open in the original Liberty location on Studewood later this spring. The chef, whose cooking experience goes back to 1991 in kitchens like Brennen’s, The Houstonian Hotel Club & Spa, and Trevisio, is returning to The Heights after a year hiatus. Fegen is considered a pioneer in turning the Heights into a dining destination, starting with his first restaurant, Glass Wall, which was open from 2005 to 2010 at 933 Studewood before he left to found Liberty Kitchen.
The new self-named restaurant, Fegen’s, at 1050 Studewood Street, will serve classic American food and craft cocktails, with dishes like chicken schnitzel, juicy steaks, mussels, and veal and pork tomato gravy with macaroni. In an homage to Fegen’s Italian-American heritage, the restaurant will also serve dishes like Neapolitan-style pizza, clam linguini, and meatballs.
