For the sixth time in history two Italians together reach the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament, but this is the first time it has happened in the US Open. After Matteo Berrettini, who yesterday overcame Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-2 in the fifth set, tonight it was the turn of Jannik Sinner who eliminated Belarusian Ilya Ivashka in 3 hours and 48 minutes of play, qualifying for the first time for the quarterfinals of the Us Open.
With two players in the quarterfinals, Italy is the top nation still competing at the U.S. Open on par with Russia (Khachanov and Rublev). It is followed by Norway (Ruud), Australia (Kyrgios), the United States (Tiafoe) and Spain (Alcaraz). Now in the quarters Matteo Berrettini will face Casper Ruud and Sinner will face Alcaraz.
