Alberto Razzetti performed a surreal magic on the 200 meter butterfly at the European Championships 2021 and became European Champion. The Italian invented a masterpiece of rare beauty in Kazan (Russia), triumphing with a peremptory 1:50.24, demolishing nine tenths of the previous Italian record (his 1:51.15 signed last September 24 in Naples on the occasion of the International Swimming League).
The 22-year-old, who a few minutes earlier had won the bronze medal in the 200-meter medley, was the protagonist of a head race right from the start: he rockets off trying to put pressure on all his opponents, insists on his overwhelming action gaining further margin in the 50-meter successes, continues to swim to the maximum and triumphs in an amazing way. A memorable day for Razzetti, who in the spring had won the silver medal in the 400 m and the bronze medal in the 200 m at the European Championships.
