It was an Easter to remember in 2020 when tenor Andrea Bocelli delivered a heartfelt and powerful performance to an empty cathedral at Milan’s historic Duomo. The concert was livestreamed on his YouTube channel and offered an uplifting message of love, healing and hope amid uncertain times.
Bocelli, who was accompanied only by the cathedral organist, Emanuele Vianelli, sang “Ave Maria” to “Domine Deus” from the altar inside the cathedral. He closed his performance singing “Amazing Grace” on the cathedral steps, with the video showing images of empty streets from Paris, London and New York. For Easter 2021, a sense of renewal has never been more palpable and we leave it to Bocelli to once again guide our hopes with booming, beautiful and resonant music.
