2017 Summer Programs. American Academy in Rome. Deadline for application: February 1, 2017. Every summer, as part of our commitment to fostering research in the humanities, the American Academy in Rome offers summer courses (rotated bi-annually), which are designed to offer graduate students and early career scholars intensive introductions to fundamentals in archaeology that are best learned on site. Courses for summer 2017 include:

AAR/Gabii Summer Program in Digital Documentation of Archaeological Collections
AAR will host a 1-week course which provides an opportunity for archaeology students to combine traditional skills in the study of material culture with new approaches to analysis, preservation and communication, employing digital technologies. International students and professionals from archaeology, history, architecture, historic conservation and preservation and other allied fields are encouraged to apply here.

The Howard Comfort, FAAR'29, Summer School in Roman Pottery Studies
AAR will host one 4-week course designed to present the basics of Roman pottery studies, which can be gained only through direct contact with ceramic assemblages. International students and professionals from archaeology, history, architecture, historic conservation and preservation and other allied fields are encouraged to apply here.
