Artificial intelligence is now being used to help animals, addressing the complex challenge of wildlife conservation, particularly in areas like Italian nature reserves. A new experimental project, developed in collaboration with the University of L'Aquila and the Salviamo l’Orso association, has created Wadas: the Wild Animal Detection and Alert System.
This open-source system uses AI algorithms to detect and recognize animals in danger, enabling continuous monitoring and more effective management of wildlife movements. Wadas was designed to work even in remote areas without complex connections or external servers, requiring efficient, powerful technology that ensures rapid, localized image processing without compromising energy efficiency.
