The track cycling world championships closed with the final masterpiece of Elia Viviani who won gold in the elimination test, repeating last year's world title in Roubaix. A test conducted to perfection by the Azzurro who left behind New Zealand's Strong, silver, and Britain's Vernon, bronze. Italy closes the rainbow event in second place in the medal table with 4 golds and 3 silvers. For Viviani this is the sixth career rainbow medal.
The race had some truly emotional moments that kept the crowd in suspense. Viviani himself, who arrived at the finish line with an abrasion on his right calf, came into contact with opponents. For him, a quick stop to change the bike and a shuddering restart. "I don't know if there was anything wrong with the bike, but I couldn't risk any more because my race would be over. It was a tougher world championship than last year, where I also narrowly avoided another crash. This was my race, I couldn't make a mistake."
