The pretty town of Campobasso, the capital of Molise "the smallest region" of southern Italy, is a place of medieval origins that has a large amount of historical, artistic and environmental heritage in its territory.
In this regard, the town developed at the beginning at the foot of a hill which is today dominated by the Monforte Castle, certainly built before the end of the 14th century and which takes its name from the leader and feudal lord Cola di Monforte, who personally and economically took care of the restoration works after the earthquake of 1456.
