An agreement has been signed between Enit and Trenitalia to enhance travel experiences in Italy. In 2022, Italy is back to travel and choosing to do so by train. Last year Trenitalia recorded more than 1 million passengers per day and nearly 400 million trips. Italy is confirmed as a particularly popular destination for foreign tourists, whose purchases of Trenitalia products increased by 25 percent in 2022 compared to 2019.
Bookings recorded for travel in the first three months of 2023 confirm positive expectations of further growth in the trend observed last year, and highlight the preference of foreign customers for Frecce products. Bringing high-speed images of the Peninsula on board is yet another way to stimulate travel to Italy.
A type of tourism that is growing more and more in Italy and whose promotion should be stimulated by encouraging sustainable mobility that is increasingly integrated with means of transport with low environmental impact. Trenitalia, in particular, wants to promote a mobility system centered on shared transportation and integration between different modes of transport, including the possibility of carrying bicycles on board.
The train supports tourism in growing numbers, partly because it is an economically sustainable means of transport. High-speed rail is increasingly efficient: the Frecciarossa 1000 reduces emissions by about 20 percent compared to the Frecciarossa 500. Trenitalia's new Regional trains consume 30 percent less energy than the previous generation; and with the Blues, fuel consumption can be reduced by 50 percent and CO2 emissions can be lowered compared to current diesel vehicles.
