The Ferrari 166 MM Touring "barchetta" was manufactured by the Maranello-based company between 1948 and 1953. The MM in the name stands for "Mille Miglia", the famous open-road endurance car race won by the 166 MM in 1948 (coupé Allemano) and 1949 (roadster Touring).
The model was created in Milan's Carrozzeria Touring implementing the "Superleggera" method, a technique borrowed from aircraft building, by which the body's aluminum panels are applied to a shell made of extremely resistant and thin steel tubes.
