On Thursday, May 22, Italy officially launched its first IQM quantum computer, one of only 12 in the world. This major milestone places Italy — and particularly the Turin region — among Europe’s leaders in quantum technologies, considered the next frontier of computing in the coming years. The quantum computer, equipped with five qubits, will be available to researchers, industries, and universities.
The system was installed at the data center of the Polytechnic University of Turin and was supplied by IQM Quantum Computers, an Italian company that is a global leader in quantum computer construction. Italy has enormous potential in the quantum field.
