Thales Alenia Space, a Franco-Italian aerospace manufacturer, was chosen by Orbital Sciences Corporation to supply nine pressurized cargo modules (PCM) for cargo transport – supplies for the crew, spare parts and scientific experiments – to the International Space Station.
Called the Cygnus spacecraft, this vessel comprises a Service Module (SM) built by Orbital, which is integrated with the Pressurized Cargo Module (PCM) developed by Thales Alenia Space. The PCM units will be delivered in two different versions: 4 will be delivered in the "standard" version (transport of cargo up to 2,000 kg), while 5 units will be delivered in the "enhanced" version, with a cargo transport capacity of up to 2,700 kg.
