Gattinoni put a patriotic spin on the runway this year in honor of the 70th anniversary of the country's becoming a parliamentary democracy. The tricolor flag motif was in the spotlight at Gattinoni, whose Venezuela-born designer Guillermo Mariotto paid homage to the Republic with an haute couture, hand-painted dress made of crinoline with raw-edged, hand-painted organza appliques and a plastron embroidered with long shards of rhodoid and crystals.
The dress was created with very light fabrics and materials and weighs only 300 grams - exactly the same weight as Italy's red, white and green flag.
