Carnival season does not belong to the Venetians alone: it is also a favorite pasttime in the charming nearby mountain villages of the same Region of Veneto. To escape the crowds of the Lagoon city, make your way to the Dolomite Mountains in Belluno Province, and get ready for mystery, fairytales and fun!
Here are all the events February to March:
Beginning with the Carnevale di Castion, the oldest in the Province, this more than 50-year-old tradition is a big draw. Cortina D'Ampezzo hosts a variety of events for its Carnival celebration Feb. 27 – Mar. 4, with masked processions and parade floats pleasing the crowds, along with the Corsa dei Sestieri, a cross-country ski relay race (in costume, at that) involving Cortina's six neighborhoods.
