Recent reports from Italian news outlets highlight a significant decline in homicide rates across Italy over the past decade, positioning the country among the safest in Europe. However, there's a concerning rise in homicides involving minors, both as perpetrators and victims.
According to data from the Italian Ministry of the Interior, voluntary homicides have decreased by 33% over the past ten years, dropping from 475 cases in 2015 to 319 in 2024. This downward trend continued with a 6% reduction from 340 homicides in 2023 to 319 in 2024. Notably, homicides related to organized crime saw a significant 72% decrease, from 53 cases in 2015 to 15 in 2024.
