Maurizio Marinella has a wonderful claim to fame: He's made a tie for every American president since John F. Kennedy. The Neapolitan tailor is the third-generation owner of E. Marinella, a family-run, bespoke tailoring shop in Naples, Italy, a city renowned for its handmade suits.
Inside the showroom just off of the wide Riviera di Chiaia (the Naples equivalent to Savile Row), dreamy, soft English silks with intricate patterns dating back to the 1940s rest on tables, and soft leather purses and belts are flanked by custom shirts and whisper-thin scarves. But what people really come here for are the ties. In an hour they can be handmade in shop, often using just a single piece of fabric. Having spent a century dressing Neapolitan gentlemen, the shop offers everything from feather-light silk for the summer to jacquard for special occasions and even Scottish patterns for the hunt.
