Italy's book publishing industry is going global. Whereas 2001 saw a mere 3.2% of the domestic titles being picked up by foreign publishers, the percentage climbed to 9.5% in 2015. In other words, nearly one out of ten Italian books crossed the border.
The bottom line is that in 2015, Italian publishing houses sold the rights to almost 6,000 titles overseas (+11.7% over 2014), and purchased the rights to over 10,000 (+2%).
